LGBTQIA+ Equality

Rep. Connolly believes in full equality for the LGBTQIA+ community in housing, healthcare, employment, civil rights and all aspect of life.

Rep. Connolly has also been a vocal supporter of the effort to protect transgender people from discrimination in public spaces like restaurants, hotels and hospitals.

We must also end the harmful and scientifically inaccurate practice of so-called "conversion therapy." Ensure inclusive, medically accurate sex education is taught in schools, increase access to PrEP, get to zero new cases of HIV in the state, expand access to screening and prevention services for youth, and develop standards of caring for our LGBTQIA+ elders.

Rep. Connolly is proud to work with local partner the LGBTQ* Commission for the City of Cambridge along with statewide organizations Mass Equality, the LGBTQ Youth Commission of Massachusetts, AIDS Action, and Fenway Health.

In his first term, Rep. Connolly has proudly:

  • Co-sponsored H.1190 - An Act Relative to abusive practices to change sexual orientation and gender identity in minors prohibiting licensed professionals from engaging in conversion therapy
  • Co-sponsored H.2892 - An Act Relative to LGBT Awareness Training for Aging Service Providers requiring the Executive Office of Elder Affairs to develop a curriculum for delivery of accessible and appropriate services to LGBTQ older adults and caregivers.
  • Co-sponsored H.4283 An Act Relative to HIV Screening and Prevention expanding access to prevention services for minors
